The degree course in Physiotherapy aims to train health workers in the rehabilitation area who carry out activities aimed at prevention, treatment, rehabilitation and functional assessment of the patient. Physiotherapy graduates deal with prevention, treatment and rehabilitation in areas of human movement, of superior cortical functions resulting from pathological events of various etiology, congenital or acquired. Physiotherapy graduates, within the scope of their skills and in reference to the diagnosis and prescriptions of the doctor, develop a rehabilitation program in the team aimed at identifying the need for health of the disabled person. The graduate in physiotherapy deals with the rehabilitation of motor, psychomotor and cognitive disabilities, using manual therapies, massages and electromedical equipment. At the end of the course, the graduates will have adequate preparation in the medical-scientific disciplines in order to allow them to better understand the most relevant elements that are at the base of the pathological processes on which the rehabilitative and therapeutic intervention is concentrated, as well as the collaboration with the reference medical team. 
Graduates in physiotherapy, thanks to the acquisition of complex concepts of pathophysiology, will be able to intervene in a global way in the area of neuro-motor rehabilitation and prevention, both independently and as a team. 
The skills acquired will enable trained professionals to carry out study, teaching and research. The graduated physiotherapist at the FA International H.E.I. will be able to work as a freelancer in private practice, in professional and amateur sport clubs, in health facilities such as hospitals, clinics, rehabilitation and socio-psychiatric facilities as well as in all areas of intervention where collaboration is needed with specialists in medicine such as surgery, intensive medicine, gynecology, internal medicine, neurology, neurosurgery, orthopedics, traumatology, pediatrics, physical and rehabilitative medicine, psychiatry, sports medicine; other areas of interest may be those of education and prevention.

This Higher Education Programme is on a full time base and will be delivered in English and Italian
The course targets students from enrolled in the Bachelor's Degree of Medical Sciences for specialization in the health field.
Students enrolling on the Bachelor’s in Physiotherapy know they are entering a healthcare area that, in addition to be characterized by the use of rehabilitation techniques, implies the ability to communicate with patients, understand and manage suffering.
Physiotherapists act in collaboration with other health professionals, higher cortical functions, or conditions arising from visceral pathologies linked to various congenital or acquired causes. In-between and in-patient physician's diagnosis and prescriptions, graduates work out rehabilitation programs in some cases as members of multidisciplinary teams in physiotherapy, designed to identify and respond to the health needs of the disabled; they autonomously practice therapeutic activities for the functional rehabilitation of cognitive psychomotor and physical disabilities; they suggest the prosthetics and the rehabilitative methods implemented in terms of functional recovery; they take part in studies and teaching and provide professional advice in health services which require their professional skills. 
Graduates acquire skills in Physiotherapy with non-medical health care profession. They can be used immediately in public and private health facilities. Physiotherapists can be included in the field of rehabilitation and functional activity.
The course, which is made of "Bachelor Degree of Medical Sciences for specialization in the health field", in which the student has acquired the basic theoretical / scientific basis for an optimal learning of the subjects characterizing physiotherapy, develops with the study of specific modules of physiotherapy.In addition to lessons of a theoretical and scientific nature important for the professional future, the course will deal with frontal and practical lessons on the topics of the profession that the student will know in the field thanks to the supervised clinical practices, which will be specific in relation to the program.
a) Communicate in an appropriate manner with the subjects on whom to operate, establishing a relationship of communication that will contribute to achieve maximum therapeutic effect and / or rehabilitation.
b) Use the most proper linguistic register and codes to discuss and interact with specialists in same or similar fields, as well as with non-specialists.
c) Deal successfully with texts and scientific discussions useful to the profession.
d) Know how to expertly manage problematic issues, identifying the most
appropriate strategies for communicating solutions and discussing possible interpretations.
e) Possess the communication skills to convey and explains notions and situations in the subject areas.
At the end of the course the student will be able to continue the academic studies and will be prepared to follow MQF7 / EQF7 level courses and will be able to deepen and specialize skills, knowledge and follow the inclinations or personal requests that may arise during the life. professional; the student will also be able to identify the strengths and limits of knowledge and skills, therefore, knowing how to frame specific areas in which to establish their potential, having acquired personal learning strategies.
Physiotherapist provide hands-on treatment and design exercise and other treatment plans to help patients with physical difficulties resulting from illness, injury, disability or ageing.
Physiotherapist practice in a range of public and private settings, including hospitals, private clinics, home care, child-development centres, extended care facilities, and health-planning agencies.
The skills you have acquired as a physiotherapist (understanding of anatomy and pathology, communication, interpersonal and analytical skills, compassion and understanding) can be used in these alternative careers:
  • Rehabilitation therapist
  • Physiotherapy technician
  • Athletic therapist
  • Residential care worker / health care aide
  • Other in this area
As per Directive 2005/36/EC, this qualification alone does not lead to a warrant to practice the profession in the capacity of Physiotherapist in Malta, and, so far, this programme has not been recognised by the relevant competent Authority in Malta,Council for the Professions Complementary to Medicine. Following the achievement of the Degree, in order to operate as a Physiotherapist, every student will need to register at the Council for Professions Complementary to Medicine.
